Background of the Pharmacy sector

According to statistics from the Drug Administration of Vietnam, the pharmaceutical industry will continue to grow in the next 5 years and is expected to reach 16.1 billion USD in 2026, with a compound growth rate of up to 11% calculated in Vietnamese Dong. At the recent \"Enhancing competitiveness of the pharmaceutical production industry\" forum, Ms. Nguyen Dieu Ha, General Secretary, Chief of Office of the Vietnam Pharmaceutical Companies Association, said that by 2022, Vietnam has 51 pharmaceutical enterprises with foreign investment capital, 228 enterprises meeting WHO-GMP standards (Good Manufacturing Practice for drugs by the World Health Organization - WHO), 12 enterprises meeting high GMP standards such as EU, PICs, JAPAN, TCA. This figure shows that Vietnam's pharmaceutical industry has indeed made significant progress, as in 2017 there were only 2 enterprises meeting GMP. Enterprises have invested more, reaching good manufacturing practice standards; the distribution system is relatively developed, especially the widespread pharmacy system throughout the country.

Beside the impressive growth of the Pharmacy industry, Vietnam's population is entering the \"aging\" stage, the population over 60 years old accounted for 11.9% in 2019, expected to increase to more than 25% by 2050.
