Tay Do University was established on March 9, 2006, under Decision No. 54/2006/QD-TTg by the Prime Minister, becoming the first private university in the Mekong Delta region, located in Cai Rang District, Can Tho City. The university was honored as one of the 10 outstanding events of Can Tho City on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Can Tho City under the central government in 2014. The university was awarded the Third-class Labor Medal by the State President, the Prime Minister's Emulation Flag for excellent completion of tasks in the field of Education and Training, and the Exemplary Emulation Flag by the Ministry of Education and Training. The university received commendations from the Prime Minister's Office and various commendations from the Ministry of Education and Training, the Can Tho City People's Committee, and central agencies. With achievements in ensuring the quality of education, Tay Do University has affirmed its brand on the map of Vietnamese education. In terms of national standards, it is a private university that has met national standards through the accreditation of educational institutions in 2018. In 2020, the university achieved national standards for four training programs: Business Administration, Banking and Finance, Accounting, and Pharmacy. In 2020, the university was rated as meeting 3-star plus standards by the UPM (University Performance Metrics); In 2021 and 2022, the university continued to meet national standards for 08 training programs: English Language, Economic Law, Tourism and Hospitality Service Management, Information Technology, Construction Engineering Technology, Nursing, Master of Business Administration, and Master of Pharmacy - Clinical Pharmacy. In 2023, the university continued to meet the standards for the second cycle of educational institution quality accreditation.

Looking back at the development process, from the early days of establishment under extremely challenging conditions with limited permanent faculty members, having to rent facilities for operation and training, Tay Do University initially offered only 07 academic majors. However, to date, Tay Do University has expanded its offerings to 25 undergraduate majors, 06 master's degree programs, and 01 doctoral program. The university's infrastructure has been invested in extensively, encompassing nearly 125,000 square meters, with approximately 76,129 square meters of floor space dedicated to modern classrooms, laboratories, practical training rooms, and indoor and outdoor study areas. The university has trained 30,000 bachelors, engineers, pharmacists, and 1,269 master's degree holders in majors such as Business Administration, Pharmacy - Clinical Pharmacy, Banking and Finance, and Accounting, making significant contributions to the training of human resources for society, meeting the demands of integration and economic development in the Mekong Delta region. For the period 2024-2028, the university plans to continue investing in resources (including facilities, equipment, and a 9-story lecture hall and laboratory building, ...) and carry out training activities to meet the objectives and outcomes of the training programs.

The transition from the annual training system to the credit-based system has yielded numerous positive outcomes, enhancing students' proactive learning attitudes significantly. All of the university's training programs are benchmarked against leading institutions nationwide, aiming to transform students' talents and enthusiasm into specific skills and knowledge essential for success in their future careers. Evaluation and updates of learning outcomes and training programs are transparently communicated to students and society, ensuring compliance with regulations. The university focuses on developing and refining a comprehensive set of skills including language proficiency, computer literacy, soft skills, and vocational skills, as well as instilling political integrity, ethics, and professionalism in students to meet labor market demands. Additionally, the university is dedicated to establishing and implementing an internal quality assurance system, developing a comprehensive survey system and database to gather feedback from students and stakeholders, providing data for self-assessment of educational institutions and training programs, and supplying information to relevant authorities and independent education quality assessment bodies.

To enhance the quality of education and contribute to the socioeconomic development of the Mekong Delta region, the university prioritizes investment in infrastructure, increases operational funds for scientific research, and fosters international cooperation. To date, numerous research projects at both university and provincial levels have yielded scientific and practical significance. Many faculty members' papers have been published in reputable journals domestically and internationally. The university's standout research areas include:

  1. Pharmaceutical Sciences: Researching and evaluating the chemical and biological composition of various herbs, along with producing functional foods.
  2. Agriculture and Aquaculture: Providing guidance for farmers in producing organic fertilizers for high-yield and high-quality crops, as well as developing efficient aquaculture models and improving environmental conditions.
  3. Environmental Management: Improving the country's land environment within agricultural systems and addressing the adverse impacts of climate change.
  4. Tourism: Studying and advising on issues related to tourism development in the Mekong Delta region.
  5. Food Processing Technology: Developing processing techniques for aquaculture products, fermented beverages, and beverages derived from agricultural products.
  6. Technology: Developing new materials to treat water pollution and manufacturing nano-materials to reduce the cost of fuel cells.
  7. Economics: Analyzing factors influencing financial structures, supply chains, and value chains, as well as proposing solutions to promote economic structural shifts and transition economic growth models.

These research endeavors align with the university's commitment to advancing knowledge and addressing local and global challenges, contributing to the region's sustainable development.

The university places significant emphasis on international cooperation activities. Through programs such as the Asian Core Program (ACP) and Core and Core Program (CCP), the university has sent faculty members for academic exchanges and research internships in Thailand and Japan. Additionally, the university has signed 25 memoranda of understanding and cooperation agreements with universities from the United States, Germany, Australia, Malaysia, South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan regarding undergraduate training partnerships. A joint Master's degree program in Tourism Management is underway with Nanhua University, Taiwan. The university has collaborated with the TSUKUI Group on recruitment and training of Nursing majors to work in Japan. Through this program, 18 Nursing graduates have been working in Japan since 2018.

According to surveys of alumni, over 80% of graduates either found suitable employment or continued their education to advance their qualifications. Feedback from employers in the Mekong Delta, Ho Chi Minh City, and other provinces in the Southeastern region of Vietnam has been highly positive regarding the professional competence, soft skills, and vocational skills of the university's graduates. Many alumni hold leadership positions in government agencies in Can Tho City and other provinces in the Mekong Delta, as well as in major banks and corporations in Can Tho City. They also contribute significantly to various sectors, large enterprises, and companies in the Mekong Delta region.
