"International scientific conference "The impact of factors for Can Tho city to become a regional connectivity hub""

On April 22, 2023, at Hall A of Tay Do University, an International Scientific Conference with the theme "The impact of factors for Can Tho city to become a regional connectivity hub" was held. This is a forum to share knowledge, ideas, and experiences to give practical and feasible recommendations to increase the connection of employees, organizations, and businesses to contribute to creating closer linkages within the Mekong Delta and promote Can Tho city to become the center of linkage.

Attending the conference, Tay Do University was honored to welcome Dr. Nguyen Van Hong – Member, Vice Chairman of Can Tho city People's Committee; Prof. Dr. Yvon GOUSTY – President of the Asia-Europe Technology Development Group, France; Prof. Dr. Premkumar Rajagopal – Rector of Malaysia University of Science & Technology; Dr. Alex Wei – CEO of Industrial Academy, Yuan Ze University, Taiwan; Dr. Richard Bui – Director of International Cooperation Department, Yuan Ze University, Taiwan; Dr. Hasanuzzaman Tushar – International University of Agribusiness and Technology, Bangladesh; and leaders from departments of Can Tho city, provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta. On the side of Tay Do University, there was the presence of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vo Khac Thuong - Vice Chairman of the School Council - Vice Rector; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Van Thom – Member of the School Council – Dean of Graduate School; Prof. Dr. Tran Cong Luan - Rector, along with the teachers, leaders of all departments, faculties, centers and students of Tay Do University.

Attending and speaking at the conference, Mr. Nguyen Van Hong, Vice Chairman of Can Tho city People's Committee, said: “Implement Resolution No. 59-NQ/TW dated August 5, 2020 of the Politburo on construction and development of Can Tho city up to 2030, with a vision to 2045 and the Mekong Delta Plan in the period of 2021-2030, vision to 2050, Can Tho has determined that it is necessary to maximize both internal and external resources to develop the city into a smart, modern city and the center of Mekong Delta. Emphasizing the practicality and significance of this international scientific conference for Can Tho city, Mr. Nguyen Van Hong suggested that in addition to the topics presented in the scientific report such as regional linkage, planning, industrial development, hi-tech agriculture, tourism... Climate change and investment rates in Can Tho should be discussed in depth during the conference to promote linkages and regional development in the Mekong Delta.”

This international scientific conference is a collaboration on scientific research between the People's Committee of Can Tho city and Tay Do University, expressing the concerns surrounding what to do to make Can Tho city become the center, the nucleus of the linkage of Mekong Delta. In more than 40 papers sent to the conference, the Organizing Committee chose to introduce around 5 groups of topics: the overview of domestic and foreign studies on regional linkages; strengths and weaknesses in linkages in the Mekong Delta in recent years; the status of the connection of Can Tho city over the years; forms, contents and solutions to develop linkages between sectors and the Mekong Delta region; solutions for Can Tho city to show its role as a linking hub in the Mekong Delta.

At the conference, the delegates presented their presentations, exchanged speeches on the strengths and limitations of internal and external linkages over the years; forms, content and solutions to promote internal and external links. At the same time, propose and recommend to the People's Committee of Can Tho city and the Government, to create the best environment for Can Tho to soon become a center for linking the Mekong Delta region.
