"GRASSROOT TRADE UNION OF TAY DO UNIVERSITY"

INTRODUCTION

The Executive Committee of Tay Do Univer- sity's Grassroots Trade Union was established under the Decision No 176/QĐ-LDLD dated Dec 14nd, 2006 issued by the Standing Committee of Can Tho Confederation of Labour.

FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• To propagate policies and laws of the government; mobilize workers to improve their political, cultural, legal, scientific and technical, professional qualifications and skills.
• To monitor the implementation of policies and laws regarding issues related to workers' rights.
• To prevent negative manifestations, corruption and social evils, promote thriftiness; combat wastage, resolve labour disputes and complaints.
• To cooperate with the Board of Directors to perform democratic regulations.
• To instruct and assist workers to complete their tasks according to the labour contracts, cooperate with the Board of Directors and Board of Rectors to improve employees' working conditions.

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE AND ACHIEVEMENTS

• Tay Do University's Grassroots Trade Union consists of 11 members of the executive committee and 11 lower level unions.
• The Executive Committee of Tay Do University's Grassroots Trade Union determines that promoting emulation movements is one of the important and useful measures to prove Trade Union members' abilities, fortes, sense of initiative and creativeness, contributing to working effectiveness. As a result, after 18 years of operation, Tay Do University's Grassroots Trade Union has gained these achievements:
• Vietnam General Confederation of Labor: 02 emulation flags, 02 certificate of merit.
• Can Tho City Labor Federation: 02 emulation flags, 09 certificates of merit.

DEVELOPMENT ORIENTATION

• To make the University's Trade Union strong, participate in Party building, introduce good Union members to the Party, provide a link between Union members and the Party.
• To mobilize Union members to actively learn about new technology, advanced technique and practice thrift, cooperate with other units to set up the University's culture together with political and ideal missions.
• To appoint officials to attend training courses on Trade Union, participate in reforming and completing the mechanism and policies related to workers.
• To implement educational missions, promote emulation movements, complete professional tasks, protect workers' lawful and legitimate rights and interests.
